Vijay Gurbaxani moderated a discussion session hosted by Octane@UCI entitled Healthcare Software & Services: How Technology is changing the Health Care System on October 17, 2005 at UC Irvine.

Victor Gonzalez and Gloria Mark presented the paper “Managing Currents of Work: Multi-Tasking among Multiple Collaborations” (PDF) at the 9th European Conference in Computer Supported Cooperative Work (ECSCW ’05) on September 19-22, 2005 in Paris, France.

Also at ECSCW ‘05, Victor Gonzalez and Gloria Mark presented a paper, “Conceptualization of Practical Activities: An Information Worker’s Perspective,” for the workshop From a Theoretical to a Computational Construct.

Bonnie Nardi, with colleague Victor Kaptelinin from the University of Umea Sweden, gave a talk at the International Symposium Artefacts & Collectives: Situated Action and Activity Theory in Lyon, France this summer regarding her recent work in activity theory with a focus on expanding the notion of agency.

Walt Scacchi presented the Keynote Address on the future of the game industry at the International Game Conference and e-Sports Festival in Daegu, Korea during the month of August 2005. More than 25,000 people attended, and excerpts of the address were highlighted on Korean national television.

Alfred Kobsa ran the following workshops:

  • NSF-ITR Collaboration workshop on October 20, 2005 during eChallenges e-2005 with NSF colleague Suzi Iacono in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
  • Kenneth L. Kraemer participated in the NSF workshop run by Alfred Kobsa and also presented a paper "What Drives E-Business Adoption by Firms? The Role of Innovation, Attributes, and Context" (co-authored by Kevin Zhu and Sean Xu) at the European Commission Research Conference eChallenges e-2005 on October 18, 2005 in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
