CRITO Loses a Colleague

It is with great sadness that we inform our readers that Roberta Lamb, one of our CRITO faculty associates passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 28, 2006 after a brief battle with cancer. Roberta joined CRITO and the Informatics Department at the Donald Bren School in ICS as Associate Professor this past April, coming from the University of Hawaii. We were excited that Roberta had returned to UC Irvine, as she had been a part of CRITO as a graduate student in the late 1990’s. She received her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in 1997, under the supervision of one of CRITO’s founders, Rob Kling.

In her career, Roberta made great contributions to research in information systems and social and organizational informatics, focusing on information and communication technology use within organizations and in widely dispersed socio-technical networks. Roberta was also widely recognized as an excellent teacher and mentor to students. She served as deputy editor of The Information Society, associate editor of Information Technology and People, and social aspects theme editor of the Journal of Digital Information.

We will miss her. A Remembering Roberta Lamb site can be found at http://www.ics.uci.edu/community/events/lamb/.
