National Outlook for Automation in the Home

The National Outlook for Automation in the Home (NOAH) is a research project of the Center for Research on Information Technology in Organizations (CRITO) at the University of California, Irvine and is funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation. The main objective of the study is to examine the use of new media and information technologies in the home and their impact on family life and home-based work life. The project has been tracking home computer use since the mid-1980's and the current study will conclude in 2002.

In addition, other studies in progress include:

  • Project POINT (People, Organizations, and Information Technology) is a national, five-year study funded by the National Science Foundation analyzing how information technology (IT), especially the Internet, transforms people’s lives in such areas as the home, work, civic life, and school.
