John M. Carroll is Edward Frymoyer Chair Professor
of Information Sciences and Technology at Pennsylvania State University.
His research interests include methods and theory in human-computer
interaction, particularly as applied to networking tools for collaborative
learning and problem solving. He has written or edited 14 books and
serves on nine editorial boards for journals, handbooks, and series.
He is a member of the US National Research Council’s Committee
on Human Factors and Editor-In-Chief of the Association for Computing
Machinery (ACM) Transactions on Computer-Human Interactions (CHI). In
2003 he received the CHI Lifetime Achievement Award from ACM. Dr. Carroll
holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from Columbia University.
