Gloria Mark and Victor M. González’s research
project, “Increased Productivity or Burnout?,”
sponsored by the CRITO Consortium, was recently highlighted
in The New York Times. The article, “Meet the Hackers,”
written by Clive Thomas for The New York Times Magazine, published
on Sunday, October 16, 2005, opens with a description of Mark
and González’s research on multi-tasking behavior
in the work place and goes on to discuss the study in the
context of other work being conducted around understanding
and managing high tech distractions. For 2 days after publication,
the story was the second most emailed article for the New
York Times demonstrating that many people can identify with
being constantly interrupted and overloaded with information.
